Frequently Asked Questions
What music do you play?
I try to have a mix of music, there will be some
pop tunes in there both new and old, tunes from musicals,
some more traditional jazz tunes and some nursary rhymes.
This does mean that you are stuck with my music taste!
So, if you have any requests, or tunes you would like to
hear let me know and we can use them.
What shoes should I wear?
If you have tap shoes, then I would start with those!
If you want to try the class before buying tap shoes,
then adults are best to wear a hard soled shoe like Dr Martens.
Kids can wear any shoes with a solid sole that are secure on their
feet.
What tap shoes should I buy?
We have no restrictions on what colour shoes
kids should wear for class. The brighter and
more sparkly the better. Remember, you can
always paint the shoes! You can buy shoes from the local
dance shop, dance shops online, vinted or ebay.
Adults are also very welcome to put on a pair
of tap shoes. Check out the recommendations
in the FAQ section of adult classes for
some ideas.
What clothes should I wear?
Something that you find comfortable and can freely move in.
We have no set uniform, so everyone is free to wear what
they feel comfortable in. This can be exercise clothes,
jeans, leggins, skirts, dresses etc.
York Rhythm Tap t-shirts are available to purchase
to wear in class, but there is no requirement to do so.
How do I book onto a class?

Are you qualified?
Yes! I actually hold teaching qualificaiton in tap dancing,
aerobics, yoga, pilates and physics! I've been teaching
dancing since I was fourteen years old and have shared
my love of tap dancing with countless children and adults.
I am insured and hold enhanced DBS.
But I don't know anyone in the class.
No problem at all, we are a friendly bunch and dance classes
are the place to make friends for life.
My closest friends nearly all come from dancing, some from
when I was a kid and some from adult classes.
The rhythm tap world is a really
lovely and friendly place to be, I've got a lof of
friends from attending classes or festivals.
What syllabus do you follow?
York Rhythm Tap is not a traditional dance schools.
There's no uniform, we don't follow a set syllabus,
and we don't do exams. This means we can be flexible
and resond to the students needs and fully inclusive.
